Marion Koelsch Cadwallader (nee Marion Louise Koelsch) died January 4, 2017 at 99.5 years of age at Sunrise of Des Peres on Memory Care floor. Marion was born July 9, 1917 the only child Minnie Grossenheider & William Koelsch. She is survived by two sons George (wife Bonnie, their daughters Joanne & Amy) of Maryland Heights, Missouri & Lee (wife Jeanine, their daughter Ann & son James) of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Marion lived a long and eventful life. She loved to travel. Some of the places she travelled include the Caribbean, Alaska, Lake Louise in Canada, Mexico, Panama Canal, Europe, the Holy Land, and Russia. She attended the Macy’s Day Parade in New York and the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasedena, California.
Early in life, she liked to sew and often made her own clothes. She enjoyed cooking, especially making pies from scratch. One of her favorite childhood memories is going on the trolley car with her mom, all the way to the end, to what is now Creve Coeur Park, and go down the stairs to the lake.
Another favorite memory was of going to the Muny as a child. Her uncle ran the sound system there & she went frequently both as a child and an adult. She became a patron of the arts. She played the piano from childhood to her golden years. She took music and art appreciation courses at Washington University. She enjoyed the Compton Heights Band, especially Hugh Smith. She frequently went to the St. Louis Symphony at Powell Hall, the Sheldon, the Repertory Theater, Stages, and Union Avenue Opera. She has been a long time member of Shaw’s Botanical Garden. She liked flower shows, both going to them (world wide) & competing in them (locally). She strived to plant trees and flowers to help the earth.
She liked to dance with her senior citizen group and sing with the Happy Notes choral group. She enjoyed collecting music boxes and bird figurines. She especially liked the cardinal bird figurines. She was a race walker in the Senior Olympics.
