Obituary for Sharon Lee Rau (Butler)

Sharon Lee Rau (Butler)
Sharon Lee Rau nee Butler, a graduate of Webster Groves High School and longtime resident of Kirkwood, died Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Born on March 1, 1947, Mrs. Rau spent her entire life as an active resident of the Kirkwood and Webster Groves schools and communities. After graduating from Webster Groves in 1965, Mrs. Rau went on to receive her Associates Degree in Nursing. On June 20, 1970, she married Webster classmate Terry Rau, Sr.
She spent her entire career in nursing at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, starting as a candy striper in 1969. She worked in Cardiology for the most part with brief stints in NICU and adolescent medicine. She started working in the community in 1985 and officially transferred to Community Education in 1995. She received the monthly President’s Award in 2002.

She was a doting wife, mother and grandmother who balanced her family life with a commitment to her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, Job’s Daughters, Webster Groves High School reunion committee, room mother, girl scout troop leader and Parent’s as Teachers. She was incredibly dedicated to all she did and devoted to those she loved. She spent her free time entertaining friends, celebrating holidays, working on various committees, supporting her community and finding the positive in all situations.

Mrs. Rau was the beloved wife of the late Terry Henderson Rau, Sr. and is survived by her children Tammy (John) Knoll, Stephanie (Dave) Evelsizer, Amy (Darnel) Frost, Kara (Steve) Emerson, Terry “TJ” (Ashley) Rau and Katie (Tom) Mueth; and twelve grandchildren: Taylor, Delaney, Trey, Claire, Dane, Joe, Reese, Terry III “Trey”, Molly, Trace, Raegan and Henry. She was the daughter of Mary Butler (nee Enteman) and the late Roy H. Butler and the daughter-in-law of the late Godfried Rau and the late Vivian Rau.
