Obituary for June Marie Fix (Hodapp)

June Marie Fix (Hodapp)
Fix, June Marie (nee Hodapp) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 29, 2017 at the Aberdeen Heights senior living community in Kirkwood, Missouri.

June was born on May 23, 1928 at her grandparents’ house near Alhambra, Illinois to Edward C. Hodapp and Anna Cordelia (Garde) Hodapp. She graduated from Staunton (Illinois) High School in 1945, having just turned 17 years old. Right out of high school she moved to Peoria, Illinois and then to St. Louis to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she held several positions including telephone operator. She met the love of her life Eugene (Gene) Fix in 1956 and they were married on June 8, 1957. They had five children together.

The growing family settled in Belleville, Illinois till 1968 when they moved to Shoreview, Minnesota. The family returned to the St. Louis area in 1972. For 39 years, Des Peres, Missouri was their home until June and Gene moved to Aberdeen Heights in 2011.

June was a devout parishioner at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Kirkwood where she attended mass almost every day. For many years she volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital which was eventually razed to make way for Aberdeen Heights.

June was a dedicated mother who took pride in her house being filled with laughter, love and faith. Wherever the family lived, the neighborhood kids seemed to gather at the Fix house where June tolerated rowdiness and dirt being tracked through the house; and she dispensed old school wisdom along with a bowl of French onion soup or a panini.

June enjoyed traveling with Gene to Florida, Arizona, New England, and throughout the world. She also enjoyed playing bridge, going out to Ted Drewes, and taking brisk winter walks on cold Minnesota nights. But most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family, especially her seven grandchildren.

June is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Eugene and her children, Joseph Fix and his wife Stacey of Newbury, Massachusetts, Tom Fix and his wife Linda of Carthage, Missouri, Greg Fix and his wife Julie of Glendale, Missouri, Lisa Underriner and her husband Joe of Glendale, Missouri, and Lori Fix of Webster Groves, Missouri; grandchildren Sara Fix, Allison Fix, Katie Fix, Sam Fix, Ava Fix, Zach Manwaring, and Will Underriner; her sisters Mary Jennings, Betty Bucher, Shirley Hines, Rita Forneris and her husband Tony, and Kathleen Gross and her husband Paul; sister-in-law Betty Hodapp, brother-in-law Luke Ayuso, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John Hodapp, sister Marguerite Ayuso; her sister-in-law Elvira Clements and brothers-in-law Wilfred Jennings and James Bucher.

Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 3, 10:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bopp Chapel.
