Obituary for
Rodney James Carey
Rodney J. Carey, 70, of Crestwood, MO died peacefully on Friday, August 11, after an 8 year journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rod was a loving husband, stepfather, son, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
Rod was born in La Harpe, IL but grew up in southern California. He served four years in the Air Force after which he attended the University of South Alabama. He and Marcie met at a single’s dance at Grant’s Cabin in 1978 and married shortly thereafter. They resided in Belleville, IL until 1990.
Because of his positions as salesman, sales manager, branch manager and product manager in the HVAC industry, Rod and Marcie relocated several times from Belleville, IL to Dallas, TX to Milwaukee, WI and finally to Nashville, TN. Following his diagnosis, in 2010 they returned to St. Louis and took up residence in Crestwood.
Rod’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to everyone at Dolan Memory Care Homes, especially those who lovingly cared for Rod for the past year at Schuetz Manor. Their kindnesses will never be forgotten.
Rod is survived by his wife Marcie; stepsons: John Voelker of Kirkwood, MO and Thomas Voelker of Washington, DC; grandchildren: Christine, Elizabeth, Margaret and Joey Voelker and Amy Nail; father, Marion Carey of Blandinsville, IL. Rod will also be missed by extended family and many friends. Rod was preceded in life eternal by his mother, Ruby Carey; his stepmother, Dorotha Carey; and his sister Patricia Nixon.

Celebration of Rod’s life will be Saturday, August 26th at 11:00am in the Historic Chapel at Manchester United Methodist Church, 129 Woods Mill Road, Manchester, MO 63011. Visitation with the family will be at 10:30am and a reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
