Obituary for
Jaqueline M. Marsh (Hieminga)
Jackie Marsh (nee Hieminga), born in Groningen, the Netherlands on February 16, 1948 went to be with Jesus on September 8, 2017. She lived a full life, faithfully serving her Savior and her family.
After immigrating to the United States as a young child, she met James Marsh, in Clifton New Jersey, her high school sweetheart whom she would marry on August 8, 1969. Jim and Jackie’s 48 years together included moves from Michigan to Florida to Missouri with their three kids: Jeremy (Bekah), Meri (Mark), and Becky (Jeff). As a family, they enjoyed cross-country station-wagon road trips (with rest-stop picnics), cheering each other on at various sporting events (mostly basketball), and holidays with extended family (with socks from “Santa” on Christmas Day). Jackie was an amazing and beloved “Nana” who delighted in her 8 grandkids.
Jackie returned to school in 1986 to obtain her nursing degree, which she graduated with in 1989. She worked at Missouri Baptist Hospital for 20 years, first in Oncology, and then in Sub-Acute Rehab. While Jackie’s caregiving personality perfectly fit her role as a nurse, her primary employment motivation was paying for her kids’ college educations.
Above all else, Jackie loved her family. We recently found a little note she had saved that Jeremy had written and left for her to find on the day of a particularly challenging microbiology test while she was in nursing school, “Mom, I just wanted to wish you good luck on your test. Just do your best. You’re a great student, and you make me proud.” This note perfectly embodies Jackie Marsh’s legacy: because of her sacrificial love, her joyful serving (without complaint) to foster a tight-knit family unit, we’ve operated as a beautiful team even unto her death. It was a blessing for each of us to be at her side in our home as she passed into the arms of our Savior.
