Dr. Jerry. L'Ecuyer
Dr. Jerry L’Ecuyer, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Thursday, September 21, 2017. He was born on June 17, 1931 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Concordia, Kansas, near Greenleaf, where he was reared. He attended St. Benedict’s College (now Benedictine College), Atchison Kansas, where he earned his B.S. degree, cum laude in 1953. He received his M. D. from St. Louis University Medical School in 1956. He completed a rotating internship at Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y., pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, chief residency in pediatrics at the University of Nebraska Hospital in Omaha. He was, base pediatrician at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha and then began his practice of general pediatrics in August of 1961 in Rock Hill, MO, St. Louis County where he practiced for 36 years.
He was Clinical Professor of Pediatrics on the voluntary faculty at St. Louis University School of Medicine, He devoted one month per year as attending physician at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, and was once honored with the Favorite Faculty award. He served 3 years as councilor for the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, was for many years a delegate to the Missouri State Medical Association. He served on the Ste. Genevieve DuBois Parish Council and the School Board, and later parish council at Holy Redeemer parish.
He was an avid bowler for which he carried the nickname of “Biff”. The team he sponsored was called “Doxjox”. His highest average for one year was 192 at Strike’n Spare Lanes in 1989. He loved to write, producing several self-published books, including “Perspectives in Caring for Children”. He loved a late-acquaintance with computer technology and spent much time exploring cyber-space.
After he retired in 1997, he enjoyed continued contact with his Glennon colleagues on Wednesdays to attend Grand Rounds and volunteer in the children’s playroom. He tutored kindergarteners in the OASIS program. He enjoyed the ROMEO’s (retired old men eating out), and a wonderful discussion group that met for over 30 years. He entertained his family and friends with weekly jokes and shared his talent as a piano player with Cardinal Ritter Senior Center for many years.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Marge, son Michael and sister Sr. Mary Mel O.S.B. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Cochran (Russ), sons Dr. Tom (Becci), Dr. John (Jenny), and Dr. Paul (Krissy) L’Ecuyer; grandchildren Jake, Suzie, Kevin, Daniel, Madeline, Michael. Brother Mel L’Ecuyer and sister Sharon L’Ecuyer. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Visitation Friday, September 29, 5:00pm-8:00pm at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood. Funeral Mass 10:00am Saturday, September 30, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 17 Joy Ave. at Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves, MO. Jerry would like any memorials to be for the benefit of: Birthright, St. Louis, Inc. or SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
