Obituary for
Thomas F. Hilgeman
Peacefully entered into his new life in Christ on January 17, 2018 at age 88, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Phyllis (Komotos) Hilgeman and the late Mary (Wessels) Hilgeman; brother of the late Rev. Edward, Sr. Mary Ann, Rev. Jim and John Hilgeman; brother-in-law to Barbara (the late Frank) Tubbesing, the late Vincent Wessels and Rev. David Wessels, father of Ann (Kevin) Stillman, Joseph (Mary) Hilgeman, Martin Hilgeman and Marcia (Gene) Bender; grandfather of Adam (Amanda), Laura, David and Nate Stillman, Kathleen (Aldo) Tase, Sarah (Matt) Zufall, Elizabeth, Michael, Will and Audrey Hilgeman and Gene Bender; great-grandfather of Levi Zufall; step-father of Mary Carol Blumke, Deacon John (Kay) Komotos, the late Julie Komotos, Barbara (Michael) Thomas and Robert (Jann) Komotos; step-grandfather of Christopher and Andrew Blumke, John (Keyonne) Komotos, Michael Thomas, Matthew (Hélène) Thomas and Luke and Kelly Komotos; great-step-grandfather to Genesis and Zion Komotos.
Tom grew up in St. Louis and, at age 15, started college. During the next few years he worked his way through college, until he was drafted. Tom was a United States Army veteran and taught accounting for 31 years at St. Louis Community College at Meramec, during which time he served as Department Chairman. He was certified as a C.P.A. and C.M.A.,earned two Master's Degrees and in his later years opened a tax accounting practice.
He lived a life of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. He forgave easily and loved deeply. He will be greatly missed.
Services: Visitation at St. Peter Catholic Church, 243 West Argonne, Kirkwood on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are appreciated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
