Carl Joseph Bennett
Bennett, Carl Joseph, 93, fortified with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 left this life and his loved ones. Beloved husband of Alice (nee Rapp) for 70 years, loving father of Karen (Fred Niermann), Greg (Lynn) Bennett, Mike (Jill) Bennett, Michelle (late, Steve) Ostermueller, grandfather of Jeff (Alison) Niermann, Andrew (Kari) Niermann , Ryan (Sandrine) Bennett, Alicia (Tony) Malik, Claire Bennett, Sam Bennett, Jake Bennett, Meghan Ostermueller, Ryan Ostermueller, Matt Ostermueller, great-grandfather of Lillian, Joshua, and Audrey Niermann, William, Walter, and Tommy Niermann, Riley Malik, Victoria Bennett. They “made him great.”
Carl was a graduate of Southwest High School and earned a BS and Master’s at NE Missouri State Teacher’s College (Truman University). He loved and honored his country serving as a cartographer in the Philippines and Australia, while in the Navy during WWII. He was a 61-year resident of Brentwood, MO and member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and worked as a teacher, principal, and coach at the Francis Howell, Pacific (Meramec Valley) and City of St. Louis School Districts.
Services: Funeral Mass Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at 9:30 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Brentwood. Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Monday, November 12, 4-7 p.m. at Bopp Chapel 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Missouri, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63132 or online at www.alz.org/greatermissouri.
Our family was truly blessed to share many good times with Dad throughout his long life. Every moment was a teaching moment for him, and always willing to joyfully help others. As he was fond of saying , “I am glad that you got to see me”, and each life he touched was far better for the experience. He will be missed.
