Helen Hubbard Huss, 87, died on November 11, 2017, at her home in Manchester, Missouri. Born on December 11, 1929, at the family farm outside Houston, Missouri, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Huss, her parents, Nellie and Ransom Hubbard, her sister, Virginia Smith, and her brother, John Mitchell Hubbard. She is survived by her sister, Roma Hollenbeck of Houston, Missouri, and her brother, Bruce (Ransom B.) Helen attended the University of Missouri for one year before getting married and starting a family. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and wonderful cook who took time to pass those skills to her family. Helen always kept track of family members and was very proud of the accomplishments, large and small, of her children and grandchildren. As her daughter took on the care of foster children, Helen generously opened her home to those children who eventually came to call her "grandma.” Throughout her life, and especially in later years, Helen looked forward to her visits to the family farm and passing along many memories to the younger generations.
Helen worked in human resources for many years, first at Missouri Baptist Hospital and later at Christian Hospital Northwest until her retirement. She was involved in recruiting new graduates in the health care field and provided orientation to new employees so was one of the first friendly faces for those newcomers.
Helen maintained a keen interest in current events throughout her life, continuing to read the daily newspaper and watching the evening news. As a long time fan, she followed the news about of the University of Missouri and the Mizzou Tigers with special interest.
