Obituary for John Joseph Shillington Jr.

John Joseph  Shillington Jr.
John Joseph Shillington Jr., 85,passed away on December 24, 2018. He was born and resided in St. Louis, the son of John Joseph Shillington, Sr. and Matilda Jones Shillington. He graduated from Amherst College, served in Army Counter Intelligence in Japan and later joined his family business. He was the President of Shillington Box Company, a third-generation corrugated box manufacturer for 34 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Rowe Shillington; his adoring children Cynthia Gillentine (Chuck), Stephen Shillington (Audrey), Leslie Christ (Michael); his admiring grandchildren Andrew (Lauren), Trevor, Justin and Brooke Gillentine, John and Kaleb Shillington, Jordan, Lacey and Courtney Christ. He was predeceased by his brother William R. Shillington and his sister Sarah Shillington Stone.

John enjoyed traveling, nature, wildlife, photography and spending time at his cabin in Defiance, MO. He is best known for being a man of great character, a kind and compassionate gentleman with a bright, genuine smile and a loving spirit. He was a devoted husband, father and Poppy to his grandchildren and he cherished his many meaningful friendships. He brought wisdom, wit and joy into our lives and he will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Services: Visitation will be at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, MO, on Thursday, January 10 from 4-7 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of St. Michael and St. George, 6345 Wydown Blvd., Clayton, MO, on Friday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Great Hall.
