Condolence: Aunt Cathy,
I have so many great memories. As a child, I remember spending the night at the apartment on Washington (downtown) that you shared with Aunt Therese. I only remember staying with you once, but it was a memorable visit. You had a pet parakeet that escaped its cage. An adventure ensued as you and Aunt Therese set out after it with a broom. It was a difficult task as the ceilings in the apartment were very high. Did you ever get that little bird back in its cage? I have no idea, but I do remember the excitement!
At Christmas, I always looked forward to seeing you. I don't think you ever missed a Christmas when I was young. I would anticipate the gift of a new pair of gloves or some other sensible gift. Your desserts, especially the bread you made in the tin cans, were a holiday staple. When I was older and out on my own, you still brought me (and the rest of us) that special holiday bread.
When I was a freshman in a high school, you came over to the house to cut my hair. I was trying out a new style, all the girls were wearing it. I was so excited. I guess I didn't explain it well. You cut it as best you could, given my weak description. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but we made it work, and I was still able to pull my hair back in barrettes like my friends.
In my adult years, my favorite memories are of you and the time we spent at the farm. Drinking whiskey sours and eating pretzels while we prepared supper. I'm surprised we were hungry when it came time to eat! Remember the time we cooked up the deer tenderloins fresh off the deer that Roger shot during deer season? Yum!
Other memories of chatting around the kitchen table, playing cards, swimming in the pool, bonfires in the back field, looking for shooting stars....
My kids favorite childhood memories of you are at the farm. ❤️
Aunt Cathy, you are loved and will be missed. You are home now. I hear there's nothing better! I will see you soon.
Love,
Suzanne
